February Third Week

Hello again gardeners. This is a great week for a good old garden tidy up, if you have not yet ventured out into the garden as yet in 2011. Sometimes, when I am feeling a bit lazy and trying to motivate myself, I force myself to go out into the garden, hardcover notebook in hand and do an assessment of the garden. Once I write something down, especially in list form, it tends to get done, eventually. My kids used to call me Missus List, when they were young. My notes might read something like this:

  • Clean & sweep driveway
  • Pruning for March as follows, Viburnum tinus, Forsythia, Erica heathers, Penstemons, Catmints, Plants needing rejuvenation
  • Paint roadside walls & entrance
  • Powerwash patio.
  • Hoe the beds
  • Get kitchen garden ready for sowing
  • Clean the polytunnel plastic and Glass house glass.
  • Think about a new path down by the shrubbery for winter strolling in the garden
  • Eucalyptus gunni trees need severe pruning in march, getting out of hand.
  • Dead Sycamore branch overhanging garden to be removed.
  • Sand patio set and give a coat of Sadolins.
  • Paint the patio wall. Change colour to Portland grey.

Get my drift? I can do a bit when the mood takes me and the weather suits. I have a plan to work to. It all gets done. I get great fresh air, exercise and destressing. Who needs a gym.
